Anemia During Pregnancy

Anemia during pregnancy

Anemia is a condition where the level of hemoglobin (the carrier of oxygen in one’s body) in your blood falls lower than normal. Anemia during pregnancy is often found and not necessarily a disease. During pregnancy a woman undergoes many changes, including in her blood. This is physiological, and normally found.

The cause of physiological anemia is due to the increase of blood plasma volume compared to the hemoglobin level. Although there is also an increase in the hemoglobin level, it is still not par to the plasma volume, which make a pregnant woman’s blood somewhat diluted…thus the anemia.
